DME Does NOT Require Proof of Purchase

Prior to reimbursing bills for DME products, some claims administrators incorrectly request providers to supply proof of purchase. With the exception of a dangerous device, this request for proof of purchase is not allowed.

To the extent a payer incorrectly denies payment for a DME product by requesting proof of purchase, daisyBill recommends submitting a timely appeal using the following appeal reason:

"Pursuant to Labor Code 5307.1, an invoice is not required for this DME. The DME product is listed on Medicare’s DMEPOS fee schedule and does not meet the definition of a 'Dangerous Device' as defined by California Business and Professions Code Section 4022:
