The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) requires specific steps for doctors who wish to treat injured workers with network and non-network claims.
After completing Steps 1–3, physicians may treat non-network injured workers. To treat injured workers with network claims, physicians must contract with the certified health care network managing the injured worker’s claim.
Follow the checklist below to ensure compliance and readiness to treat injured workers.
1. Verify Medical License
Physicians who wish to treat injured workers must hold a medical license that is in good standing with both of the following:
- The licensing board
- The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC)
Certain providers are restricted from treating injured workers in Texas. The DWC maintains a list of restricted providers on the following DWC website:
Disciplinary orders against health care practitioners (HCPs)
2. Create or Update TXCOMP Health Care Practitioner Profile
TXCOMP is an automated system that allows public access to non-confidential workers’ comp information.
The DWC maintains a list of doctors and health care practitioners who may treat injured workers on the TXCOMP website. Providers can look up whether they have a health care practitioner profile in the DWC TXCOMP database:
Doctors with a profile can review and update their information as required.
Doctors who do not have a TXCOMP profile can submit a System Access Request Form here.
3. Financial Disclosure
Any provider seeking to participate in the Texas workers’ comp system must file financial disclosure information with the DWC via TXCOMP.
The disclosure must identify any other provider that:
- The applicant provider has a financial interest in,
- An immediate family member of the applicant provider has a financial interest in, or
- Employs the applicant provider and holds a financial interest in.
